Updated: Aug 1
As the nation fights with the pandemic of Covid-19, the office of the Maram Students' Union felt the responsibility to join in the fight and consequently have taken up various initiatives, playing a major role in the district and village level, to fight the pandemic.
At the initial point of the pandemic situation, after the Nationwide Lockdown began, the Union took up the step in helping out the stranded students and labourers in and around the district and villages by distributing them basic essential commodities like rice, dal, onion, potato, cooking oil, cooking gas, etc.
Maram Students’ Union along with Senapati District Administration conducted periodical sanitation programs at different villages/locations including Primary Health Centre Maram, Don Bosco Higher Secondary School Maram and Don Bosco College Maram. Also along the National highway-02 by spraying chemicals and setting up of Hand Washing point in collaboration with 34 Assam Rifles Maram Battalion at different locations including PHC Maram.
As the lockdown continued for more than a month the local people were facing difficulties in meeting their basic essential commodities so the Maram Students’ Union stood up with the COVID-19 relief distribution to different Maram Villages which includes; Maram Khullen, Kavanam, Sagongbam, Naojai, New Maram, Kabinam, Rajaimei, Pumdunglung, Sangkunlung, Sadim, Rangalung, Malingli, Maram Khunou, Katomei Centre and Ngatan village. In reaching out to different Maram Villages Our Union has distributed 130 quintals of rice, few quintals of dal, potato, onion, salt, etc.
As the returnees started coming back home from different cities, our office in collaboration with District Administration team worked together to handle the returnees like helping in arranging Institutional Quarantine Centres at different locations run by the District Administration. Time to time, our office often visit all the District Institutional Quarantine Centres to show our support and concern to the returnees by providing their basic needs like face masks, sanitizers, soaps, detergent, drinking water, etc. We also constantly keep in touch with the Maram Covid-19 positive people who were isolated in Imphal and District isolation ward.
